The Newest Technology In the Classroom
The use of technology is present in everyday activities. From work, meetings and the classroom there are mounds of technology to use. Schools have taken on the use of technology especially as times have changed. The technology that is used now replaces all of the older equipment from decades before, and provides a new way to learn complex problems.
Classroom Technology
With the demanding need to represent real life problems, the traditional way of teaching has left more to be desired. Teachers now are starting to use different technologies to portray different problems that require more thinking in general. One of the tools that have been used is multimedia such as The Adventures of Jasper Woodbury. This is primarily used for math problems that require thinking on a more abstract level. This technology allows for a video to play a story that poses a problem that can be figured out mathematically.
Other subjects may require other forms of technology and there are plenty to fill the need. Teachers have been using videoconferencing to link the classroom to scientists in the field. The students through this technology have been able to experience more than what can be learned from a book. This is saying quite a bit when it comes to science, considering that it is very hands on. Another tool that is being used with internet connection is Microworlds. This technology is aimed to allow students and teachers to work and manipulate different aspects of physics.
There are other tools of technology that don’t require the use of the internet, but are a great aid for teachers. Interactive whiteboards are just one of these tools. These are being seen more and more in the classrooms of elementary kids. Whiteboards in general are providing a fun and interactive way to learn. These are based off the computer screen and displayed using a projector. They allow for the teacher to talk and explain without having to show a concept repeatedly. Teachers have as well been known to use these tools to play pranks on students to make the class fun.
Interactive panels on the other hand are very new in the classroom, but can provide a more hands on approach for teachers. These don’t require any clicks of the mouse or multiple screens. This technology on the other hand is like the whiteboard when it comes to being interactive. This allows for writing to be done on it though, using an electronic pen. The screen can become bigger for the classrooms using a projector. This is a very good tool of technology that has come around for teachers.
Considering that technology is in wide use wherever anyone goes, the classroom is expected to have some form of technology. Before it was only a computer and internet access for the teacher, but now it has expanded to make class fun for the students also. These advancements have allowed for broader thinking to occur as well. With all of the advancements in technology already, the future of the classroom can only be expected to grow more towards technology use. The days of traditional teaching have gone.
